Senior Outreach

As a full time caregiver for a family member with Alzheimer’s Disease, Dennis came to realize the value of music in the lives of people with memory issues. He became a board member of The Ashland Memory Care Center, and remained a participating member for over ten years. His weekly performances at the Memory Care Center, playing the popular music of the 30’s and 40’s on his clarinet, as well as singing and sharing stories, led to weekly and monthly brain-gym performances (residents guess the song title or composer) at several group homes throughout the Rogue Valley, where he still plays regularly. His stories and humor always make these sessions great fun!

In senior settings where memory issues aren’t central (i.e., retirement homes), Dennis is able to expand on his knowledge of the composers and their lives. For special events he’ll often add additional instruments.
